Tutor LMS turns a WordPress site into a place to teach — courses, lessons, quizzes, enrolled students and payments — and this 14-lesson course builds one from a blank install using only the free plugin. You'll run the setup wizard, make the settings decisions that prevent regret later, structure a real curriculum in the course builder, add quizzes, enrol your first student, manage Q&A, add instructors, switch on selling, and take the site through a going-live checklist.

What you'll learn

An LMS is a genuine application, so the course starts with what it actually adds to WordPress and then walks the setup wizard and the settings tour that decides how the rest behaves. From there you build: a course in the builder, topics and lessons that give it structure, quizzes that assess without needing Pro, and the publish-and-enrol moment where a student sees it for the first time. The middle modules cover the student's side — the dashboard, the Q&A loop that keeps people engaged, and managing students as an administrator — and then adding instructors for a multi-teacher site. Monetization uses Tutor's native system so you can sell without a store plugin. The last module handles design, the course archive, a going-live checklist, and an honest map of the free/Pro boundary so you know exactly what you'd be paying for if you ever upgrade.

Who this course is for

Trainers, consultants, teachers and small organizations who want to sell or deliver a course from their own WordPress site rather than renting space on a marketplace. You should already be comfortable in the dashboard — if not, start with WordPress Fundamentals. If you'd rather sell physical or digital products than courses, the WooCommerce course is the better fit; the two plugins also work together, and this course shows where that connection lives.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really sell a course with the free version of Tutor LMS?
Yes. The free plugin includes the course builder, lessons, quizzes, student enrollment and a native monetization option. The final lesson maps exactly where the free/Pro boundary sits so you're not surprised later.
Do I need WooCommerce?
Not to follow this course — it uses Tutor LMS's native selling system. If you already run a WooCommerce store, Tutor can sell through it instead, and the course points out where that choice is made.
Is this course for beginners?
It assumes you're comfortable in the WordPress dashboard — creating pages, installing plugins. If you're not there yet, take WordPress Fundamentals first; an LMS is a full application layered on top of WordPress.
