Training Videos for MainWP setup guide

Put the video library on every client site from your MainWP Dashboard: one license key on the Dashboard, the plugin deployed to the sites you pick, and your name on every one of them.

What the extension does

Training Videos for MainWP installs the Training Videos plugin on the child sites you choose, activates each one against your license, and keeps its video selection in step with what you set on the Dashboard. Your license key stays on the Dashboard: child sites never receive it, only a key locked to their own address.

Sites deployed this way get the neutral build of the plugin. It lists itself under the name you choose, and your clients see your business name and support link, never ours. Not using MainWP? The single-site guide covers installing the plugin by hand.

You need:

  • MainWP Dashboard 5.4 or newer, on WordPress 5.8+ and PHP 7.4+.
  • Client sites connected to that Dashboard through the MainWP Child plugin.
  • Your license key (it starts with wptl_). If you have lost it, regenerate it in your agency account.

Install the extension

Download it

Sign in to your agency account with the email address you bought the license with, and click Download the MainWP extension.

Install it on the Dashboard site

On the WordPress site that runs your MainWP Dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate Plugin. No MainWP.com API key is involved: the extension is unlocked by your WP Tutoring license key.

Open it

Open Training Videos for MainWPfrom MainWP’s extensions (Add-ons). It opens on the Status tab, next to Library, My videos, Sites and Settings. Only administrators can use it.

Add your license key

On the Status tab, paste your key into the Licence key box and click Save & verify. You should see Licence verified.and your account and plan. The key is checked before it is saved, and it is kept in MainWP’s encrypted key store on the Dashboard.

The Status tab also shows how many of your plan’s slots are in use, the video catalogue, where your sites stand, and recent activity.

Your name on client sites

On the Settings tab, fill in Your details before you deploy. It is what your clients see:

  • Your business name: the name of the training library on every client site.
  • Your support URL and Your support message: where a client is sent for help. They contact you, never us.
  • On the Plugins screen: the plugin name, description, author and links each client site shows. Leave a field empty to use your business name and support URL.

Leave Install the client plugin from on WP Tutoring (licensed download). Under Catalogue updates, choose whether a course we publish is held for your review (the default) or added to your client sites automatically. Click Save Settings: sites already deployed are queued for the change.

Choose the default videos

The Library tab holds the Default selection for new sites: the lessons every newly deployed site gets, and any site set to use your defaults. Choose Who can watch (the lowest role on a client site that can open the library; the default is Contributors and up), then click Save defaults. Sites that follow the defaults pick up the change on the hourly sync.

When a new course is waiting for your review, the Library tab says so. Click Add these to my sites to release it to your clients, or leave it hidden. Nothing appears on a client site while a course is held.

Deploy to your sites

Pick the sites

On the Sites tab, tick the sites (or Select all, or filter by group). Only sites MainWP can currently reach are listed.

Deploy

Click Deploy selected. For each site the extension installs and activates the plugin, registers the site against your license, and sends its configuration. Sites run one at a time, and progress shows as Deploying… (n / total).

A site’s first deploy uses one slot on your plan. Deploying it again reuses the same slot, so re-running a deploy is safe. Push selected only sends the configuration to sites that already have the plugin, and never installs anything.

New sitesWhen you add a site to MainWP, tick Push Training Videos configuration on the Add New Site form and the site is deployed as soon as MainWP adds it.

On a deployed site, the plugin’s settings page says the training videos are managed by your business, with a Get support button to your support URL. There is nothing for the client to configure.

Choose what each client sees

On the Sites tab, click Configure on a site. Under Show, pick Use my default selection, Choose for this client or Nothing (keep the plugin, hide everything), and set Who can watch. Every lesson is shown by default: uncheck what this client shouldn’t see. Your own videos are the opposite, off until you tick them.

Click Save. The site shows Out of date until the change reaches it: click Push (or Deploy) to apply it now, or let the hourly sync carry it.

Add your own videos

On the My videos tab, paste a Video URL (YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, Loom, or a direct link to a video file), give it a Title your clients will see, and click Add video. You can add up to 200. They appear alongside the lessons, in their own section, on the sites where you tick them under Configure. Removing a video takes it off every site.

Release a slot

To take the library off a site and give its slot back to your plan, click Remove on the site’s row in the Sites tab and confirm. The client loses access, the slot is released, and the plugin stays installed but does nothing. You can also release any site from your agency account: click Release next to it.

If you…Is the slot released?
Click Remove on the Sites tabYes
Click Release in your agency accountYes. The Dashboard notices within the hour and marks the site Released from your account.
Delete the site from MainWP firstNo. The site keeps its slot and is listed under Slots in use by sites you no longer manage on the Status tab: release it from your agency account.
Deactivate or delete the plugin on the client siteNo. The next sync reports that the plugin is not active.
Delete the extension, or click Forget keyNo. Remove your sites first if you want their slots back.
Change a site’s addressNo. The next deploy registers the new address, which uses a slot, and the old address appears under Slots in use by sites you no longer manage.

If you regenerate your key

Regenerate in your agency account stops the old key working immediately. On the Status tab, clear the saved key, paste the new one and click Save & verify. The extension checks it, then re-sends the configuration to the sites that need it, the rest within the hour. Child sites never held the key, so there is nothing to change on them.

Updates

The extension updates from the Dashboard site’s Plugins screen, like any other plugin, as long as your license key is saved. When we publish a new version of the client plugin, the Sites tab adds a Sites to update filter: select those sites and click Deploy selected to install it. Push and the hourly sync never upgrade the plugin. Deploy is also how sites still on version 2.x move to 3.x.

Troubleshooting

A site’s status and its last error show on the Sites tab (hover the status) and in the site’s own Training Videos tab in MainWP.
