About WordPress Dashboard

Your Dashboard may look slightly different as there are lots of customization options in WordPress. The screenshot just gives you a simple idea about the Dashboard.

Description of each tab/menu of WordPress Dashboard:

Typical WordPress Dashboard contains less than 10 tabs/menus. But it will increase as you install plugins or certain themes. All the tabs are aligned to the left of the page. Now we’ll discuss individual menus.

Dashboard Menu

The first tab is named Dashboard. You’ll see a couple of submenus (Home and Updates).

You can go to the site homepage by clicking on Home. And the Updates menu takes you to the themes and plugins update page.

Posts Menu

All your blog posts are stored in the Posts menu.

You can see all posts, add new post, add categories, add tags etc.. from this menu.

Media Menu

In this section you’ll find all your image, video, pdf media files.

You can add new media, edit them and delete them from this page.

Pages Menu

This is the most used menu of WordPress. All your content is managed from here.

You can add new page, edit page and delete them from here.

Comments Menu

Comments menu lists all the comments by your visitor on different posts of your blog.

It allows you to approve and remove comments.

Appearance Menu

This menu contains the most important features of WordPress. There are some submenu in this part.

– Themes: You can add new theme, delete theme and activate theme from here.
– Customize: In this page you can easily change the customizable elements of the website.
– Widgets: This page contains the sidebars, footer blocks etc..
– Menus: The navigation menu of your website can be managed from here.
– Editor: You can edit the core files of your website in this page.

Plugins Menu

We use plugins to add extra features to our WordPress site.

You can add, activate, deactivate and delete plugins from here.

Users Menu

In this page you can add, edit and delete users.

There are different types of user roles. Such as Subscriber, Editor, Author, Administrator etc..

Tools Menu

WordPress Tools menu is basically used to import and export content.

Settings Menu

This menu is very important for your website. There are some submenu here.

– General: The site title, timezone etc. can be managed from here.
– Writing: You can set default post category and default post format from here.
– Reading: You can set the front page, blog page, blog post numbers etc. from this page.
– Discussion: The comments settings can be found here.
– Media: You can set thumbnail size, medium size and the large size of the images from here.
– Permalinks: The permalink of your pages and blogs can be set from this page.

That’s pretty much about the default features and menus of WordPress Dashboard. You may see some new menus if you install any additional plugins.
